Gulf of Georgia Cannery: When the canneries first opened in the late 1800’s the work was all manual with hooks and knives. The industrial revolution introduced machines into the process, replacing many workers but increasing production 10 fold. This image is a chain drive for a fish conveyor belt that mechanized the transport of large salmon through the processing plant.
